ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú parents, guardians, faculty, and students took time this afternoon to celebrate our 8th graders and their incredible journey. The 8th Grade Fly-up Ceremony marks this important milestone, as our students transition from Middle School and prepare to begin a new chapter in High School.
The special ceremony featured heartfelt speeches, memorable student performances, and culminated with certificates of graduation and sweet treats.
As a great teacher once told me, you don’t know where you’re going until you realize where you’ve been. Today feels surreal, but also very real - it is one of the most important days of my life.
Several student speakers shared experiences that they will always carry with them from 8th Grade and Middle School, overall. Jack R. (Class of '30) urged his classmates to "remember the memories we made, and how far we came!"
"ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú has given me so many opportunities, and I have been able to meet so many people I would not have otherwise met," said Josh M. (Class of '30).
I have learned how much practice it takes to get good at something. I learned how important it is to have a goal and work towards it. Thank you, teachers, for pushing us to grow and excel.
Class Speaker, Taos G. (Class of '30), thanked ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú for signature experiences that left a lasting impression on his Middle School experience. "The Costa Rica trip stands out as an opportunity to experience global culture - this experience changed me and it was an incredible opportunity to grow as a person," he shared. "That’s what makes ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú amazing - these incredible opportunities."
Seventh Grade-Level Coordinator and Humanities faculty, Lauren Uhl, drew on her love of literature and poetry to inspire her students for the road ahead. Quoting Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, she explained how important it is to not just be ready to perform the roles we are called upon to enact - but to perform them as well as we can.
We don’t always get to choose the roles that we play in life. But we do get to choose how we play them. You have got to take what life gives you and make it yours. Your time at ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú may have just been a few scenes - but you have left a real impact here.
Charlotte H. (Class of '30) expressed her passionate and emotional gratitude to the friends, teachers, and memories that have shaped her Middle School experience. "My time at ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú has been monumental, and I have cherished everyone who has made an impression on me," she stated. "Even though it’s painful to close this chapter in my life, I feel confident and hopeful as I walk toward the next chapter."
ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will never forget being here.
Head of School, Ray Wilson, added his congratulations to this graduating class during his closing comments. "Our mission says that students are engaged in cross-disciplinary study, and you have learned this: that these subjects are connected because life is connected," he said.
"You have learned that it’s important to make your voice heard, but also that it’s not the only voice in the room," he added. "Congratulations, graduates! I am proud of you, I believe in you, and I cannot wait to see what you do next."
All that you have learned along the way is with you now, and it will continue to be with you in the future. Learning shapes who we become, see the world, understand one another and ourselves. You have learned not only to find answers, but to approach the unknown with curiosity and confidence.
